BROWN LAYER

Origin and Breeding:

The Brown Layer is a crossbreed, selectively bred from lines of Rhode Island and White Rock breeds.

Egg-Laying Productivity:

  • These chickens start laying eggs at around 19 weeks of age.
  • They are highly productive, laying up to 320 eggs by the age of 72 weeks (one year of production).
  • Eggs are laid almost daily, typically in the morning.

Physical Characteristics:

  • Most Brown Layers have a caramel/brown shade of feathers.
  • They exhibit a distinctive pattern with white feathers around their necks.
  • White feathers are present at the tips of their tail feathers.
